So this one time, I was watching my favorite German game show (as you do), and they played a round of a Finnish lawn game (as they do) called Mölkky. I turned to my friend who was with me and we agreed that it would be fun to try. Unfortunately, Mölkky sets are somewhat pricey online, so I decided to make my own.
I went to the local lumberyard and picked up a large plank of poplar. After cutting the plank down to smaller blocks, I trimmed the blocks down on a lathe to produce a bunch of thick wooden rods. A few quick cuts and several coats of polyurethane later, I had two completed Mölkky sets, one for my friend and one to keep as my own.
Mölkky has proved to be a popular game to play with family and friends, to the point where in December, I crafted two more sets to give away as Christmas presents (and I have the wood to make one or two more sets, should the desire come up). Aside from Pinewood Derby cars way back in the day, I didn't have much woodworking experience, so this project, which got me using a handful of new tools I had never touched before, was a very interesting venture that I would gladly take up again in the future
